nvestigate Fraudulent Recruitment Practices at SUBEB and the Unjust Employment of Unqualified Consultants to Level 12

This is to once again bring to your urgent attention a serious issue involving fraudulent recruitment practices currently taking place within the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). There have been reports that certain individuals—who are reportedly consultants linked to Tayo Salami—are being improperly appointed as Level 12 officers, despite lacking the qualifications stipulated by the Federal Civil Service Commission.

Currently, letters are being issued to deserving EdoSTAR fellows who have undergone training and are serving as teachers in basic schools. However, these letters are being undermined by the inclusion of consultants, primarily from NewGlobe and friends of Tayo Salami, many of whom are based in Port Harcourt and Lagos. These individuals, with only a BSc or B.Ed., are being appointed to Level 12 positions. According to civil service regulations, a first-degree holder should be placed at Level 8, a second-degree holder at Level 9, and a PhD holder at Level 10. Medical doctors, engineers, and lawyers also typically start at Level 9 or Level 10.

Given this, it is incomprehensible how these consultants, who do not meet the required educational standards for such a high entry-level position, can be appointed at Level 12.

I calling on the appropriate authorities—particularly the incoming Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo —to swing into action on resumption of office immediately and clean up the mess— investigate the actions of Eyitayo Salami. It is crucial that all fraudulent employment letters be withdrawn and that the integrity of the civil service system be upheld. 

It has come to light that Eyitayo Salami’s position as Chairman of SUBEB is questionable, as sources have confirmed that no Board members currently represent the three senatorial districts of Edo State on the Board.

This situation represents a gross injustice to the existing civil servants who have to dedicate over 16 years of work  to attain such a position, only to see unqualified individuals being employed unfairly.

I urge the incoming Governor to act swiftly and rectify this situation in the interest of justice, fairness, and the rule of law.
