Akoko Edo LGA Council Chairman and Vice Chairman Impeached for Gross Misconduct

Barr Bright Alade Tajudeen, the Chairman of Akoko Edo Local Government Council, has been impeached by the council’s legislative arm due to gross misconduct, financial misappropriation, and executive recklessness. Alongside him, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Beatrice Abukare, faced similar charges and was also impeached.
The impeachment took place during a plenary session on Monday, presided over by the council speaker, who facilitated the proceedings in the legislative chambers. The action followed a formal notice brought against both officials, which highlighted numerous allegations of misconduct.
The motion for the impeachment of the council chairman for Gross misconduct , financial misappropriation and executive recklessness was moved by Hon. Akosile Nicholas Imashimi from ward 9 and seconded by Hon. Afolabi Hope Monday from ward 7. In moving the motion for impeachment, accusing Barrister Tajudeen Alade of repeatedly violating council regulations. Nicholas emphasized that these actions had severely eroded the goodwill and trust of the Akoko Edo people, and Tajudeen was unfit for leadership.
The motion received strong, and ultimately seconded and garnered a majority vote, with five council members affirming the decision to remove both the chairman and vice-chairman from their positions.
In the same vein, the following Legislators who were absent from plenary and were suspended include Hon. Samuel Eshiozemeh Thomson, Ward 8, Hon. Ojo Paul Ozaveshe, Ward 1, Hon. Otuogbai Iyabo, Elizabeth Ward 6, Hon. Bamidele Cyprian Ogogo ward 3, and Hon. Momoh Ojo Pius ward 4.
Following the impeachment, Rt. Hon. Bliss Alabi Oshionogue from Ward 5 has stepped in as Acting Chairman to oversee council affairs while Rt. Hon Jacob Tope, the immediate past Deputy Leader of the House, assumes office as the Leader of the House.
The current events underline the critical need for rigorous checks and balances, as well as enhanced oversight of local government operations by relevant authorities and active civic participation.
In a press briefing, the Acting Chairman assured the Executive Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, hail the developmental strides of the Governor upon resumption of office, describing him to be proactive and assuring that the leadership of the council would key into his 5-point agenda., He, therefore, dissolved all political appointments made by the suspended Chairman and set up a recovery committee on Council properties.
Rt. Hon Kabiru Adjoto, a vibrant and former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, condemned the high headedness of the impeached Council Chairman. He also stated, "Impeachment is a normal thing. As such, the legislative arm only performed their duties. He also commended the state Governor for giving the Legislators the free hand to perform their duties".
A party stalwart, Chief Chris Dirisu, while also commending the legislatures for taking a bold step to discharge their duties without fear or favor, admonished the Acting Council Chairman to be upright and learn from the ordeal that has befallen the impeached Chairman.
The All Progressives Chairman, Akoko Edo Chairman, Hon. Monday Oseh, while congratulating the acting Chairman, stated, "remember that power is transient; you must do everything legally possible to impact the lives of the teeming unemployed youths and women in Akoko Edo. Do not be carried away with the office because you will be remembered for the impact you make when you leave the office. I can assure you that you have the support of the party leaders".
