Chairman and Vice Chairman of Esan North East Uromi Impeached for Gross Misconduct
In a decisive move, eight out of the eleven councillors of Esan North East Local Government Area, Uromi & Uzea, have impeached the suspended Local Government Chairman, Dr. Kelly Ehidiamen Inedegbor, and his Vice Chairman, Hon. Thomas Otiobhili. The impeachment, which was agreed upon unanimously, was based on allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and failure to uphold their oath of office.
The legislative arm of the council accused the duo of misusing their positions for personal gain, eroding public trust, and undermining the integrity of local government institutions. This action comes after growing dissatisfaction among council members and the community over the leadership of the suspended officials.
In addition to the impeachment, the leader of the house also suspended three councillors—Hon. Sunday Ebosele (Ward 3), Hon. Smart Eboigbe (Ward 5), and Hon. Kingsley Osehon (Ward 10)—for undisclosed reasons.
The decision has been widely applauded by residents of Esan North East, who view it as a step towards restoring accountability and ethical leadership in the local government.
Speaking on the development, a source within the council described the impeachment as necessary to uphold the standards of governance expected by the people. The move reflects a strong commitment by the legislative arm to prioritize the interests of the community over political allegiances.
This latest development underscores the importance of transparency and responsibility in public office, with many residents expressing hope for a new era of integrity in Esan North East Uromi's & Uzea leadership.
