Edo State House of Assembly Dissolves Committees

The Edo State House of Assembly has dissolved all standing committees to facilitate the reconstitution of new ones. The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku announced this during a plenary session. He also took the opportunity to inform the House of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that his decision was motivated by the desire for the development of his constituency rather than partisan politics.

In reaction to the Speaker's defection, the Majority Leader, Hon. Jonathan Ibhamawu, representing Esan West, along with Hon. Ojezele Sunday, representing Esan South East, and Hon. Addeh Isibor, the Deputy Majority Leader and member representing Esan North East (1), warmly welcomed the Speaker to the APC.

In another development, a Bill to establish Saint Matthew Royal College of Nursing in Edenu has passed its second reading. During the debate, the Majority Leader, Hon. Jonathan Ibhamawu, expressed his support for the Bill, noting the nationwide shortage of health workers. He emphasized that the establishment of the nursing college would help address this shortage and positively impact the state's economy.

The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Maria Edeko, representing Esan North East (2), also voiced her support for the Bill. She stated that the new school would train more nurses, contributing to an increase in health workers in Nigeria, and potentially allowing the country to send professionals abroad, thereby boosting the national economy.

Other members who supported the Bill included Hon. Addeh Isibor and Hon. Eugene Inegbebor, who represents Igueben Constituency.

The House sitting was thereafter adjourned to Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
