EDO STATE PETROLEUM TASK FORCE BEGINS OPERATIONS, SEALS FUEL STATIONS FOR SHORT-CHANGING CONSUMERS

Benin City, Edo State, May 27, 2025

The Edo State Petroleum Task Force (PTF) officially commenced operations yesterday in Benin City, with a clear mandate to regulate and monitor the distribution of petroleum products across the state.

Led by the PTF Chairman, Engr. Daniel Usifoh, the Task Force began its inspection exercise along Irhirhi Road, off Airport Road in Benin City. The purpose of the visit was to verify that petrol stations were dispensing the correct volume of petroleum products, ensuring that one litre delivered to consumers is indeed one full litre.

Some of the fuel stations inspected complied with the regulatory standard. However, two stations, MRS Fuel Station and Jeff Fuel Station were found to be seriously short-changing  Edo people by dispensing far less than the standard litre. As a result, the Task Force sealed both stations and instructed their management to report to the PTF office for further investigation.

In a surprising turn of events, the PTF discovered on their return journey that both MRS and Jeff fuel stations had illegally broken the government seals and resumed operations in defiance of regulatory directives. The Task Force immediately took action by arresting both directors who instructed the breaking of the seals. The stations will face serious sanctions, including a government fine for breaching the seal and violating regulatory directives.

As perceived, a few persons in the sector, operating under the guise of a group, have vowed to resist and oppose the efforts of the Edo State Government to correct these wrongs. The Edo State Petroleum Task Force, however, has reiterated its firm stance: no threats or pressure will deter it from carrying out its mandate to protect consumers and uphold fairness in petroleum distribution.

“We are committed to ensuring that Edo people receive full value for every petroleum product they purchase. The era of short-changing consumers is over,” said Engr. Daniel Usifoh.
