Woman admits forging O'Level certificate to gain nurse training spot 

A HARARE woman pleaded guilty on Friday to forging an Ordinary Level certificate in a desperate bid to secure admission to a nursing programme.

Tendai Florence Muroiwa (29) of Greendale, appeared before magistrate Ruth Moyo charged with contravening section 35(e) of the Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council Act [Chapter 25:18], presenting a forged certificate with intent to gain admission.

According to prosecutor Nomsa Kangara, on May 13, Muroiwa went to the Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) offices to have her Ordinary Level certificate confirmed after being offered a place to train as a nurse at Chitungwiza General Hospital.

However, Zimsec officials discovered that the certificate she presented, serial number 4249252, for the November 2015 examination, was fraudulent.

The candidate and centre numbers on the certificate belonged to someone else.

Further checks revealed that the certificate, which carried Muroiwa's name, was issued to one Keith Ndoro.

In addition to the identity mismatch, the subject symbols were also forged.

Investigations confirmed that Muroiwa was not listed among candidates who sat for the November 2015 exams at Mufakose 1 High School, the centre indicated on the forged document.

She was arrested the same day and taken to the court, where she admitted committing the offence.

Muroiwa is appearing in court today for plea recording and will await sentencing in custody.
