Dr. Iyamu and Hon. Omonzane Pay Courtesy Call on Hon. Billy Osawaru; Strategic Partnership for a New Edo at the Heart of Discussions.

Hon. Chief (Dr.) Billy Famous Adesuwa Osawaru, Member representing the good people of Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, received the Edo State Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, and the Chairperson of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Ebanehita Sonia Omonzane, on a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

The meeting provided a platform for robust but hearty discussions on strategic collaborations aimed at enhancing the quality and reach of basic education in Edo State. The trio discussed "forward-looking" initiatives that align with global trends in educational reform and the empowerment of its youth through improved infrastructure, curriculum development, teacher training, and community involvement which is in line with the vision of His Excellency, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, Governor of Edo State.

During the deliberations, Hon. Osawaru expressed serious concern over the persistent irregularities in the conduct of external examinations administered by statutory bodies, such as the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting legislative efforts at the national level to ensure greater transparency, accountability, and integrity in the examination process, noting the adverse impact these irregularities have on students’ academic progress and public confidence in the system.

The visit concluded with a shared commitment to deepen intergovernmental cooperation and to foster a unified approach toward building a resilient educational ecosystem in Edo State, one that truly reflects the aspirations of a New Edo and delivers inclusive, quality learning for all.
