Congratulated The Oba Of Benin And The Benin Race Worldwide On The Continuous Restoration Of Our Cultural Heritage.

Benin City; June 20th, 2025.

In what can be described as a historic moment, the Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, OmonOba n'Edo, Oba Ewuare II, Ogidigan, flanked by palace Chiefs and Members of the Benin Traditional Council, received one hundred and nineteen (119) repatriated Artefacts from the Netherlands.

These Artefacts, carted away from the Benin Kingdom centuries ago, were returned through the National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM) following sustained diplomacy, advocacy, and clamor by the revered Benin Monarch for the return of these pieces of historical and cultural artistic ingenuity.

Amongst distinguished dignitaries who joined the Benin Monarch to receive the team led by the Director General of the NCMM, Mr. Olugbile Holloway, and witnessed the official handover of this batch of repatriated Artefacts was the esteemed Ag. Chairman of Uhunmwode Local Government Council, Hon. Iredia Benjamin Osa's.

The Council Boss said the good people in Uhunmwode join the rest of the Kingdom in congratulating and rejoicing with the Royal Majesty and the Benin Nation in this auspicious moment of cultural reckoning. He added that these artefacts are our pride, though never lost but continue to increase with the restoration of some of the finest works of art the world has ever exhibited.

The return of these Benin bronzes and carvings stands as a pivotal moment in cultural renaissance, diplomatic restitution, and restoration. It is the rewriting of history and the upholding of the spiritual connotation and identity that these artefacts hold for the great Benin kingdom and her people.
