STOP DIPHTHERIA BEFORE IT SPREADS. LET'S SPREAD AWARENESS AND PREVENT IT. SEE THE SIGNS HERE

This is a public health alert from the Office of the Commissioner for Health, Edo State.

In recent weeks, we’ve seen a concerning rise in cases of diphtheria, a highly contagious and potentially deadly infection. It often starts like the common cold but can quickly become life-threatening, especially in children and unvaccinated individuals.

Diphtheria is preventable and treatable but only if we act fast.

Be on the lookout for these warning signs:

Persistent fever

Running nose

Sore throat or difficulty swallowing

Red eyes

Cough

Neck swelling

A thick grey or white patch in the throat or nostrils

If you or a loved one experiences any of these symptoms, do not delay.

As your Commissioner for Health, I am committed to ensuring every Edo citizen is informed, protected, and empowered to take charge of their health. Early reporting and treatment can make the difference between life and death.

Let’s spread awareness, not infection.

Together, we can stop diphtheria and protect our communities.
