In a proactive and commendable public health intervention, the Chairman of Uhunmwode Local Government Council, Hon. Iredia Benjamin Osa's, has taken decisive steps to combat the recent outbreak of diphtheria, a highly contagious and potentially deadly bacterial infection affecting the respiratory system.

Recognizing the urgent need for swift action, Hon. Iredia mobilized Primary Health Workers across the local government area to a mass vaccination campaign targeted at primary school children, residents, and indigenes within Uhunmwode. The exercise is being carried out both in schools and at designated health centers to ensure accessibility and full community coverage.

Demonstrating hands-on leadership, the Chairman personally coordinated and monitored the rollout of the immunization campaign, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the health and wellbeing of the people.

Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Iredia emphasized the critical importance of immunizing children, who are among the most vulnerable, while noting that diphtheria can affect individuals of all ages. He described the campaign as both timely and necessary, especially in light of the increasing rate of infection in some parts of the State and Country.

 “We cannot afford to treat this outbreak lightly, our goal is to ensure that every eligible child and resident in Uhunmwode is protected. Prevention is always better than cure, and this vaccination drive is a powerful tool in  the Edo State Government efforts to curtail the spread of this disease.” He stated.

This swift response underscores the Council’s dedication to public health preparedness, proactive governance, and a people-centered approach to leadership. Hon. Iredia called on parents, guardians, and community leaders to support the campaign, take advantage of it and ensure that no child is left unvaccinated.
