Wike Fired back at Rotimi Amaechi and Bode George

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike has fired back at former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi over his “I’m hungry” comments.

Speaking on Monday during a media parley monitored by The Nation, Wike carpeted Amaechi, noting that the latter was only hungry for power.

Amaechi last week while commenting on the state of the economy during an event organised to mark his 60th birthday anniversary said he was hungry.

He said: “We’re all hungry, all of us are. If you’re not hungry, I’m. For us, the opposition, if you want us to remove the man in power, we can remove him from this power.

“In Nigeria, there are no capitalist ideas among the politicians; it’s about sharing.”

Amaechi served as two-term governor of Rivers state from 2007 to 2015 after which he was appointed as minister of transportation by ex-President Muhammadu Buhari. He was also the chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum from 2011 to 2015.

Before becoming governor, he was the speaker of the Rivers house of assembly between 1999 and 2007. He had also served as the pioneer chairman of Nigeria’s conference of speakers of state assemblies.

The National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, spoke with reporters on the protracted crisis in the party and how it can be resolved

What are the issues that led to the internal crisis in the PDP?

We’ve had a lot of negative press for some time now, and it’s very disheartening, and I feel very concerned about it. So, for me, there’s only one group of people that can make or mar a situation or in the organisation, and that’s the press. But, so far, we’ve not been able to manage our party’s crisis. There is no doubt our party is in crisis. I’m a realist. All the crises are man-made. It’s all about ambition, and it’s very disheartening.

I was elected in October 2021 as National Secretary of this party. According to the zoning, it was zoned to the South, and micro-zoned to Southeast. And just like every other state in the Southeast, it was zoned to Imo state.

Every state in the Southeast has a representative in the National Working Committee (NWC). For instance, the National Deputy Treasurer comes from Enugu State; the National Auditor from Anambra State, and the Deputy National Legal Adviser, Abia State. So, you can see that it is wickedness for anybody who wants to take something from Ebonyi State and give it to Anambra State, when positions are evenly disputed.

I will lead PDP’s 2027 campaign in Rivers, Wike declares 

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vowed to lead the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign in Rivers State for the 2027 general elections, reaffirming his unwavering loyalty to the party despite serving in the APC-led federal government.

Speaking during a media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike addressed rising criticisms from within the PDP questioning his allegiance, asserting that his contributions to the party are unmatched.

“I am still in PDP. I worked hard for the party,” Wike said. “I have not seen anybody who has the guts to tell me, ‘Wike, you are not a member of the party.’ Who is that? What is his contribution to the party that is more than me?”

He continued, “No one will take me from the party. I’m a member. In fact, I’ll lead the PDP campaign in Rivers by 2027.”

Responding to accusations of betrayal from some party members, the former Rivers State governor insisted his loyalty remains firm and his influence within the party intact.

On his current role as FCT Minister, Wike expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating that he is proud to be challenging entrenched interests and disrupting the status quo in Abuja.

Tinubu, Wike delivering tangible economic change in FCT, says APC reconciliation chair

Chairman of the Unity and Reconciliatory Committee (URC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Sen. Jibrin Wowo, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for delivering concrete dividends of democracy to residents of the FCT as his administration marks its second anniversary.

Sen. Wowo noted that President Tinubu has led the nation with the clarity and determination of a visionary leader, particularly in advancing development within the FCT, and therefore deserves commendation for his achievements over the past two years.

He particularly commended the people-oriented policies and programmes of the APC-led administration, highlighting the directive by the FCT Minister to compensate residents affected by ongoing development projects as a notable example.

In a statement on Sunday, the FCT Chapter Chairman emphasized that the administration’s performance over the past two years has validated the confidence reposed in President Tinubu by the electorate, especially in his capacity to guide the nation towards meaningful socio-economic progress.

He noted that without the bold and decisive steps taken by President Tinubu, the country would not have recorded the significant progress witnessed in key sectors such as the economy, education, and infrastructure.

Who did PDP make in Lagos, Wike questions Bode George

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has reacted to Chief Bode George following the elder statesman’s recent comment about him.

Last week, the Peoples Democratic Party’s chieftain tackled Wike for supervising the sealing of the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja.

Accusing Wike of betraying the party that brought him to life, George described the minister’s action as disrespectful and sacrilegious.

“In regards to the locking up of our Party Secretariat, it is absolutely sacrilegious, unacceptable and culturally inadmissible. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Wike, this is the party that brought you to life,” George said.

However, during his media parley on Monday, Wike disagreed with George saying: individuals are responsible for parties’ popularity and not the other way round.
