The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has called on the people of Edo State, both at home and abroad, to observe a two-week fasting and prayer session aimed at warding off evil & seeking divine protection for the land.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Obamedo of Benin, Efosa Igbinomwanhia, the monarch announced that the spiritual exercise will run from September 15 to September 28. He emphasized that all Benin sons & daughters are expected to participate.

“This is in line with our age-long tradition that before the commencement of the yearly new yam, it is important that we fast & pray to God Almighty & the royal ancestors for a bountiful harvest, protection from sudden d+ath & peace and tranquillity in our homes, families, state & country at large,” the statement read.

The Oba further directed that the fasting should be observed daily from 6 a.m to 6 p.m throughout the 2 weeks period. “The Omo N’Oba prays to God Almighty to grant us peace & happiness as we all embark on this fasting & prayer,” he added.
