Recognizing Impact And Environmental Friendliness; Hon. Iredia Bags An Environmental Champion's Award Of Excellence.
In recognition of his remarkable strides in preserving the environment, protecting the ozone layer, and championing the cause for a green environment in Uhunmwode Local Government Area, Hon. Benjamin Osa's Iredia was given an award of excellence by the Nigeria Institute of Landscape Horticulturists (NILH).
The award, which was presented to Hon. Benjamin Iredia by Dr. Emmanuel Bankole, National President of the NILH, featured other eminent Individuals who have also distinguished themselves as environmentally friendly ambassadors as recipients of the award. They include Lady Cherry Igbinedion, Medical Director, Military Base Hospital Benin, Brigadier General Paulina Aburime, and the General Manager of Edo State Parks & Gardens Agency, Hon. Pastor Stanley Dave Ighodaro.
Accepting the award, Hon. Iredia referenced one of Chai Jing's famous quotes: "The strongest governments on earth cannot clean up pollution by themselves. They must rely on each and every ordinary person, like you and me, on our choices, and on our will.”. He further noted that this has been his inspiration as 'Man' can either protect or destroy our environment, but the campaign, however, which ought to be a collective one, must be the advocacy for a cleaner and more friendly green environment that promotes health, wellness, and well-being.
While dedicating the award to His Excellency, the practical and environmentally friendly Executive Governor of Edo State, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, Amb. Dr. Lucky Enehita Inegbenehi, Managing Director Edo State Waste Management Board, Dr. Festus Onogholo, Bernadette Strebel and the Bauknecht Foundation, Hon. Iredia pledged to continue in the advocacy and urged all to promote the culture of tree planting, and in keeping our environment clean and green. He ended with a thought provoking teaser; "If you really think that the environment is less important than the economy, try holding your breath while you count your money"
As the immediate past Acting Chairman of Uhunmwode Local Government Council, Hon. Iredia pioneered and implemented the culture of environmental friendliness through novel but creative innovations with the support of the State Government, developmental partners, and relevant government agencies aimed at protecting the environment and safeguarding our rich ecosystem. He championed a massive tree planting program geared towards boosting the green economy. This award is among the plethora of awards that have trailed the excellent account of himself that he gave while he held sway as the council boss.
