EFCC Arraigns Former Minister Chris Ngige Over ₦2.2bn Corruption Allegations.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned former Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige, on eight counts of corruption involving more than ₦2.2 billion. Court documents allege that Ngige awarded contracts to associates while overseeing the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund during the Buhari administration.

According to filings before the FCT High Court, companies connected to Ngige’s associates received multiple contracts for consultancy services and supplies. He is also accused of accepting gifts totaling ₦119.8 million through campaign and scholarship accounts.

The charges, which contravene the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act of 2000, follow earlier reports of Ngige being questioned and detained by anti-graft agencies.

This case underscores the principle that public office must serve the public, not personal interests, and that breaches of this trust are addressed under the law.
