EFCC Arraigns Peace Corps Commandant, Finance Director Over Alleged N46m Misappropriation.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned the Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Dickson Akon, and the organisation’s Director of Finance, Omolala Aminat Ahmed, before a high court in Abuja on charges of criminal conspiracy and misappropriation.

Akon and Ahmed appeared before Justice H. B. Yusuf on Thursday to face a two-count charge relating to the alleged diversion of funds meant for a contract to supply badges to the corps.

According to the charge sheet, the first count alleges that the duo conspired in 2024 to commit criminal misappropriation.

“That you, Dickson Akon and Omolola Aminat Ahmed in the year 2024 at Abuja, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court did agree among yourselves to do an illegal act, to wit: criminal misappropriation, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 96 of the Penal Code laws of the FCT,” it reads.

The second count accuses them of dishonestly converting N46 million out of the N60 million approved for the badge supply contract to their personal use.

“That you, Dickson Akon and Omolola Aminat Ahmed did dishonestly convert to your personal use the sum of N46,000,000 out of N60,000,000 meant for the execution of a contract for the supply of badges,” the charge states. The offence is said to contravene Section 308 of the Penal Code.

Both defendants pleaded not guilty.

Prosecution counsel Khalid Sanusi asked the court to remand the defendants, while their lawyer, Emmanuel Agabi, applied for bail. 

Justice Yusuf granted the bail request, admitting Akon and Ahmed to bail in the sum of N5 million each with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned to February 25, 2026.
