PDP Issues Expulsion Certificates to Wike, Fayose, and Others.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally issued expulsion certificates to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and other members expelled at the party’s November 16 national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The certificates, dispatched by courier, are intended to serve as proof that the individuals are no longer members of the PDP and can register with other political parties without violating Nigerian law on dual membership.

Addressing journalists after the National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja, Acting National Chairman Senator Kabiru Turaki said the move was necessary to inform Nigerians and government agencies, including INEC and security services, of the affected members’ status.

He added that the party would soon issue public disclaimers, warning that anyone dealing with the expelled individuals “does so at his or her own risk.” Turaki emphasized that the NWC’s action follows the ratification of the expulsions by the party’s National Convention, which cited alleged anti-party activities.

“We hope that members of the PDP in Nigeria and the diaspora will know that the party has once again gotten rid of the cankerworms that have been afflicting and creating problems for us,” he said, noting that the party is now focused on rebuilding and preparing to offer Nigerians “credible leadership” ahead of 2027.

The expulsions have sparked controversy, as the Ibadan convention went ahead despite court orders barring the gathering amid ongoing disputes over state congresses. The Wike-loyal faction, led by figures such as embattled National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and factional Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman, rejected the convention and held a parallel National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on November 18.

This group in turn expelled several PDP opponents, including Governors Seyi Makinde, Bala Mohammed, and Dauda Lawal, as well as former Board of Trustees Chair Adolphus Wabara and Turaki himself, citing similar anti-party activities.
