British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is facing growing calls to step down amid reports that he is reconsidering his political future following mounting pressure from within the Labour Party.
According to UK media reports, Starmer spent the weekend reflecting on his position as speculation intensified over a possible resignation. Government ministers acknowledged that the Labour leader was weighing what would be best for the country, although no official decision had been announced at the time.
The uncertainty comes as veteran politician Andy Burnham prepares to take his seat in Parliament after securing victory in a key by-election, a development that has strengthened expectations of a leadership challenge within Labour. Under party rules, only a sitting Member of Parliament can serve as leader.
Reports suggest that increasing dissatisfaction among Labour lawmakers, coupled with the party’s recent electoral setbacks and Starmer’s declining popularity, has fueled calls for a change in leadership. Some media outlets claim more than 100 Labour MPs have urged him to step aside.
