Government Cannot Solve Every Social Challenge Confronting Our Nation — House of Reps Speaker updates Nigerians

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has said Nigeria’s growing social and economic challenges cannot be tackled by the government alone, stressing the need for stronger collaboration with faith-based organisations, the private sector and civil society.

Speaking through the Chairman of the House Committee on Christian Pilgrims, Festus Adefiranye, at the unveiling of the KSM Endowment Fund and Charity Initiative in Abuja, Abbas praised the Order of the Knights of St. Mulumba for establishing an endowment fund to sustain humanitarian efforts.

He said, “Government alone cannot solve every social challenge confronting our nation. Sustainable national development requires a genuine partnership among public institutions, faith-based organisations, the private sector and civil society.”

Abbas described the initiative as an example of responsible stewardship, adding that “charity should not merely respond to today’s needs, but should be instrumentalised to meet the challenges of tomorrow.”

He also commended the Knights of St. Mulumba for their decades of humanitarian service, saying their work has shown that “authentic religious devotion is measured not only by worship, but by love and action.”

The Speaker further urged Nigerians to embrace religious tolerance and national unity, stressing that “our diversity should continue to inspire mutual respect rather than division, dialogue rather than hostility, and cooperation rather than conflict.” He reaffirmed the House of Representatives’ commitment to protecting religious freedom and rejecting all forms of religious intolerance, extremism and persecution.
