The promoter of the Edo: Nigeria’s Construction Site initiative, Mr. John Mayaki, has dismissed attempts by critics of Governor Monday Okpebholo to portray President Bola Tinubu’s recent remarks on flyovers as a criticism of the Edo State Government.

Mayaki urged those celebrating the President’s comments to exercise restraint, expressing confidence that President Tinubu would eventually visit Edo State to commission the Ramat Park Flyover on completion.

He said the President’s comments were directed at governors generally and focused on avoiding unnecessary flyovers where they are not justified by traffic and economic realities, insisting that they were never a direct reference to Edo State.

“The excitement among some political opponents is misplaced,” Mayaki said. “President Tinubu did not mention Edo State or Governor Monday Okpebholo. Those trying to force Edo into a general policy statement are merely pushing a political narrative.”

According to him, the Ramat Park Flyover is a strategic infrastructure project designed to address traffic congestion, improve road safety and facilitate smoother movement within Benin City.

He argued that the project should be assessed on its engineering and economic merits rather than partisan sentiments.

Mayaki maintained that critics would be disappointed when President Tinubu visits Edo to inaugurate completed projects, including the Ramat Park Flyover.

“The President spoke against unnecessary flyovers. He did not condemn every flyover. The Ramat Park project is a practical response to a genuine traffic challenge, not a vanity project,” he said.

He urged residents to judge the Okpebholo administration by the quality and impact of its infrastructure projects rather than by political speculation.

Mayaki added that the completion of the flyover would demonstrate the administration’s commitment to delivering projects that improve mobility, stimulate economic activity and support the state’s long-term development agenda.
