2026 AFRICAN TEACHERS FESTIVAL (ATF): COMRADE SYLVESTER AND SANDRA REPRESENT


EDO STATE

The ongoing 2026 African Teacher Festival taking place in Abuja is a continental education convergence platform designed to bring together educators, policymakers, innovators and development partners across Africa to transform the continents education system for improved learning outcomes and global competitiveness. 

Edo State is not left out on the ongoing African Teachers Festival as two nominees were nominated to represent the state. They are: 

2. Com. Ehigwese Sylvester of Aduwawa Primary School, in Ikpoba Okha LGA of Edo State to represent the primary schools in the state,

2. Teacher Okonufua Sandra of Arue Junior secondary in Esan Eorth East to represent the Junior secondary schools in the state.

The core objectives of the initiative are:

1. To encourage innovation and professional development among young teachers,

2. To strengthen Federal and State collaboration in advancing education,

3. To promote peers learning across the African education system.

As part of the activities aimed at achieving these objectives, the 2026 African Teachers Festival has been scheduled to hold from 17th to 22nd August 2026 in Abuja, with participation from education stakeholders and professionals across Africa. 

In recognition of the Festival relevance to teachers capacity building and promotion of professionalism in teaching, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is partnering in the 2026 African Teachers Festival
