Edo Education Commissioner Dr. Washington Osa Osifo Monitors School Resumption Across State

The Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Washington Osa Osifo, has commenced monitoring activities across schools in the state as students and teachers return for the 2026/2027 academic session.

Public schools across Edo State resumed on Monday, September 14, 2026, following preparations by the State Ministry of Education and the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

The monitoring exercise is aimed at assessing the level of compliance with the resumption directive, teachers' attendance, pupils' and students' turnout, teaching and learning activities, as well as the general condition of schools.

Dr. Osifo's monitoring is also expected to reinforce the administration's commitment to ensuring that schools provide a safe, disciplined and conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

Ahead of resumption, the Ministry of Education strengthened collaboration with the Edo State Police Command to improve security in and around schools. Both institutions agreed on measures to identify security vulnerabilities and enhance the protection of pupils, students, teachers and other members of the school community.

The resumption campaign also received support from Edo SUBEB, which distributed back-to-school packs containing items such as school bags, shoes, notebooks and pencils while sensitising parents and guardians on the importance of returning their children to school on time.

The Commissioner for Education has previously emphasised that the welfare and educational development of Edo children remain central to the Ministry's priorities, alongside efforts to strengthen teaching standards, address examination malpractice and improve human-capital development.

The ongoing monitoring exercise therefore underscores the Ministry's determination to ensure that the new academic session begins smoothly and that teachers and learners are fully engaged from the commencement of academic activities.
