Port Harcourt | September 23rd, 2026
At the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Partners for Sustainable Development Conference 2026, held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, Hon. Chief Dr. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru called for stronger collaboration among all relevant stakeholders to unlock the full potential of the Commission as a critical interventionist agency in the Niger Delta.
Representing the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on the NDDC, Rt. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, alongside other distinguished members of the Committee, Hon. Osawaru commended the leadership of the Commission for its vision and innovative approach to addressing the development challenges of the region.
He assured the Commission of the continued support and constructive partnership of the House Committee, stressing the importance of sustained legislative engagement in strengthening the NDDC’s capacity to effectively deliver on its statutory mandate.
Speaking against the backdrop of the conference theme, “Synergy for Transformation,” Hon. Osawaru emphasized that sustainable development in the Niger Delta requires a coordinated effort involving the NDDC, federal and state institutions, local governments, traditional institutions, communities, development partners, and other relevant stakeholders.
He further called on State and Local Government Houses of Assembly to deepen their collaboration with the Commission, noting that greater institutional cooperation would help create the enabling environment necessary for the NDDC to achieve its objectives and deliver more impactful interventions across the region.
Ultimately, Hon. Osawaru’s call emphasized the need for a shared development vision in which stakeholders move beyond isolated efforts and work collectively to address the region’s infrastructure, human capital, environmental and socio-economic challenges. With stronger collaboration, institutional support and a common commitment to sustainable development, the NDDC can further strengthen its role as a catalyst for meaningful transformation across the Niger Delta.
