The Executive Chairman of Uhunmwode Local Government Council, Hon. Austin Imafidon, popularly known as ISIWINA, has intensified the council’s ongoing intervention in critical road infrastructure with the deployment of heavy-duty equipment to the failed portion of the Idokpa Bypass along the Benin–Auchi Road.
The latest intervention forms part of the council’s continuous palliative rehabilitation programme aimed at addressing deteriorating road sections, restoring motorability and reducing the hardship faced daily by motorists, commuters, traders and residents using the affected routes.
The deployment of heavy-duty machinery to Idokpa Bypass marks Day Four of the ongoing road rehabilitation efforts by the council, coming on the heels of similar interventions carried out at other identified failed portions within Uhunmwode Local Government Area.
The exercise is particularly significant as the affected section of the Idokpa Bypass has reportedly become a major concern to road users, with its deteriorating condition creating difficulties for motorists and posing safety concerns for residents living and doing business around the area.
Residents Commend Council Chairman
Speaking on the condition of the road, the Chairman of Bob Izua Complex, located close to the failed portion of the Idokpa Bypass, commended Hon. Austin Imafidon for responding to the concerns of residents and other road users.
He expressed concern over the dangers associated with the deplorable condition of the road, recalling that about two months ago, a young child reportedly lost his life in connection with the failed portion.
According to him, the condition of the road requires sustained attention to prevent further loss of lives and property.
He appealed to the council and other relevant authorities to continue their intervention efforts and ensure that the affected section receives the necessary attention to improve safety and accessibility.
Morgan Junction Intervention
The intervention at Idokpa Bypass follows the council’s earlier palliative rehabilitation work at Morgan Junction, another critical section of the route.
Substantial work has already been carried out at Morgan Junction, with the intervention improving the condition of the affected portion and making the section freely motorable.
The council’s approach has focused on identifying sections where road deterioration has created immediate challenges for road users and deploying available resources and equipment to provide palliative solutions.
The intervention at Idokpa Bypass therefore represents a continuation of the council’s efforts to improve road accessibility across communities within the local government area.
Director of Works Commends Imafidon
Speaking during the exercise, the Director of Works, Engr. Asemota, commended Hon. Austin Imafidon for personally taking responsibility for the intervention and for maintaining direct supervision of the rehabilitation activities.
Engr. Asemota noted that the Chairman’s direct involvement in the exercise demonstrated his determination to respond to infrastructure challenges affecting residents and communities across Uhunmwode.
He further explained that the deployment of heavy-duty equipment would facilitate the rehabilitation process and contribute to improving movement along the affected route.
The Director of Works also emphasized the importance of proper execution of the palliative work to achieve the desired improvement in the condition of the failed section.
Imafidon: Council Will Continue Within Its Capacity
Speaking on the intervention, Hon. Austin Imafidon said the decision to deploy the council’s available resources to the Idokpa Bypass was driven by the difficulties being experienced by residents and road users.
