2027: WIKE DECLARES HIMSELF TINUBU’S CAMPAIGN FIELD COMMANDER, TO COORDINATE FCT, RIVERS OPERATIONS

FCT Minister Says APC, PDP Members Have Agreed to Back Tinubu’s Re-election Bid

ABUJA — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared himself the commander of field operations for the 2027 elections in the FCT, announcing plans to coordinate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign in both the territory and Rivers State.

Wike made the declaration on Monday during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Rainbow Coalition in Abuja, where members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reportedly agreed to work together ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the gathering, the minister expressed confidence in his role in mobilising political support for Tinubu, insisting that he would take charge of election field operations in the FCT.

“I am in charge of the FCT election. I am the commander of field operations as far as the FCT election is concerned,” Wike declared.

He further disclosed that the coalition had agreed to support Tinubu’s bid for a second term, adding that he would coordinate campaign activities in the FCT and Rivers State.

“For the presidency, all of us have agreed that it is Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I am going to coordinate the FCT and Rivers State. So you can imagine how important it is,” he said.

Wike Calls for Political Unity Ahead of 2027

The former Rivers State governor also urged members of the APC and PDP to set aside their political differences and work together towards their shared objective ahead of the 2027 elections.

His appeal comes amid ongoing political realignments and coalition-building efforts as political parties and influential figures begin positioning themselves for the next general elections.

The Rainbow Coalition meeting brought together political stakeholders from both parties, with discussions reportedly focused on cooperation and support for Tinubu’s anticipated re-election campaign.

Wike, a prominent PDP figure who has maintained political ties with the Tinubu-led APC administration, has continued to attract attention over his political position and influence in Rivers State and the FCT.

His latest declaration signals his intention to play a significant role in the president’s re-election campaign, particularly in the two locations he identified as areas of responsibility.

However, the effectiveness of the proposed political alliance will depend on its ability to translate stakeholder commitments into grassroots mobilisation and electoral support when Nigerians head to the polls in 2027.
