INEC RAISES ALARM OVER FAKE VOTER REGISTRATION PORTAL, WARNS NIGERIANS AGAINST DATA THEFT
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has raised the alarm over a fraudulent website falsely claiming that a fresh nationwide online voter registration exercise is currently underway ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a public notice issued on Saturday, October 3, 2026, the electoral body disowned the platform, describing it as fake and stressing that it has no affiliation whatsoever with INEC.
According to the Commission, the fraudulent website falsely claims that a nationwide online voter registration exercise commenced on September 28 and will run until October 27, 2026.
INEC consequently warned Nigerians against visiting the platform, clicking on its links or submitting personal information, noting that such actions could expose sensitive personal data to being harvested and misused.
The Commission further clarified that the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ended on July 26, 2026, and that claims suggesting that a new nationwide online registration exercise is currently ongoing are false.
The position is also reflected on INEC's official voter registration portal, which states that the CVR exercise has ended and that the registration process is not currently active.
INEC urged members of the public to remain vigilant and obtain election-related information only through the Commission's verified communication channels.
The electoral body also advised Nigerians to be particularly cautious of unofficial websites requesting personal information under the guise of voter registration, PVC replacement, transfer of polling units or other electoral services.
The warning comes as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections, with INEC urging citizens to verify all electoral information before taking action online.
The Commission reiterated that Nigerians should disregard the fraudulent registration claims and rely exclusively on information released through its official platforms.
For enquiries, INEC has advised members of the public to contact its call centre on 0700-CALL-INEC (0700-2255-4632) or use its other official communication channels.
