In a bold move to promote public health, food safety, and local economic development, the Chairman of Uhunmwode Local Government Area, Hon. Iredia Benjamin Osa's, has engaged the Edo State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support (L-PRES) Project to commence the rehabilitation of the Eyean slaughter slab.

The initiative, which aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s broader agricultural reform and public health agenda, is aimed at modernizing the slaughtering process, improving hygiene standards, and ensuring the safe handling of meat products across Uhunmwode LGA and the State at large.

The Council's partnership with the State Government, in accessing L-PRES, a World Bank-assisted program, shows Hon. Iredia knows the importance of aligning the local government, local development with the State and international best practices. When completed, the upgraded Eyean slaughter slab will feature improved drainage systems, proper waste disposal units, covered processing areas, and clean water access critical components for a functional and hygienic abattoir.

Representatives from the L-PRES commended the proactive approach of Hon. Iredia Benjamin Osa’s administration, describing Uhunmwode as a model in responsive governance and grassroots development.

The stakeholders, included livestock traders, cattle rears, market women, and community leaders, as they expressed gratitude for the project, which they believe will restore confidence in meat safety and revive commercial activities in the area.

The Hon. Iredia, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering impactful infrastructure, boosting agricultural productivity, and improving the overall quality of life for the people of Uhunmwode.
