....Hon. Benjamin Iredia Osa’s Strides in Repositioning the Uhunmwode Local Government Council Workforce for Better Efficiency

For decades, inefficiency and underperformance have plagued the public service sector when compared to the dynamism and results-driven nature of the private sector. In Edo State, the condition of the local government civil service, particularly in Uhunmwode, has been a source of concern.

These shortcomings, however, cannot be blamed entirely on the workers themselves. Rather, they stem largely from leadership failures at the local government level, which have hindered the civil service from harnessing its full potential, leaving the council in a near state of paralysis.

Upon assuming office as Chairman of Uhunmwode Local Government Council, Hon. Benjamin Iredia Osa's wasted no time in taking decisive action. After a careful assessment of the challenges undermining productivity within the council and its affiliated institutions, he identified workers’ welfare as the cornerstone for any meaningful reform. Determined to create a functional and motivated workforce, he embarked on a series of bold and pragmatic initiatives aimed at enhancing their welfare and operational efficiency.

For years, council workers operated under highly unconducive conditions, including offices without electricity. Recognizing that no serious administrative work could thrive in such an environment, Hon. Iredia restored power supply to the Council Secretariat, using renewable energy, a crucial first step in boosting productivity.

In another groundbreaking move, and for the first time in the council’s history, workers now enjoy the use of a staff bus. This air-conditioned bus picks them up from designated points and transports them to the administrative headquarters in Ehor. By easing the burden of transportation and reducing daily stress, workers now arrive at their duty posts refreshed and better prepared to deliver optimal results.

Furthermore, through reward and recognition initiatives, Hon. Iredia has created a safe, harmonious, and worker-friendly environment. This renewed sense of motivation among the workforce is gradually translating into improved administrative outcomes, with a more engaged and productive team driving government programs and policies.

Step by step, these consistent and impactful initiatives under the leadership of Hon. Benjamin Iredia Osa's are laying the foundation for the greater vision of "Making Uhunmwode work again". And, it all begins with an empowered, motivated, and efficient workforce.
